Networking – With a Reason
June 5, 2009
Thinking back to a recent blog post I made in regards to the importance of utilizing Social Networking in your employment search, I have read a few articles recently that expand upon that topic.
One of which was Matt LeBlanc’s post of Why Should I Be Interested In Your Status Update / Tweet? I’m sure a lot of people have been thinking the same thing…”why should I care…”, well one point that is in direct relation to Job Search would be the following scenario.
You’re scheduled to go on an interview. You want to know more about the company, more than you can find by simply typing the company’s name into a Google search and doing your own due diligence. Where do you go from here? Well, this is the perfect time a Facebook “Status Update” or Twitter “Tweet” can be a very effective tool. For example:
- Interviewing at ____ on ____ for a ____ opportunity. Any thoughts or ideas on interview best practices for the company/role?
- Came across a ____ opportunity at ____ and would welcome a warm introduction if one can be made.
- Searching for information on ____ – any insights and information would be appreciated.
This is not one of those useless updates about what you’re eating for dinner , etc… but rather an effective way to gain information, ideas, or suggestions about the opportunity you’re about to pursue. Good luck with your job search, and keep this in mind the next time you feel like letting the world know what you’re up to.
